Craig Moon Named President, Publisher of USA TODAY

McLEAN, VA – Craig Moon has been named president and publisher of USA TODAY, it was announced today by Douglas H. McCorkindale, chairman, president and CEO of Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI).

“Craig Moon has the right combination of talents to lead USA TODAY into the future. His background in advertising, his skills as a publisher and his success at managing some of Gannett’s best newspapers make him a uniquely qualified choice,” said McCorkindale.

“We’re sorry to see Tom Curley depart his beloved USA TODAY, but he’s leaving it in good hands,” McCorkindale added. “We understand running The Associated Press is an opportunity of a lifetime and we wish him well.”

Curley becomes president and CEO of the AP on June 1.

Moon, who was executive vice president of Gannett’s Newspaper Division until his appointment, will report to McCorkindale and serve on the Gannett Management Committee. From 1991 until last year, Moon was president, then president and publisher of The Tennessean in Nashville. He also was president of the Piedmont Newspaper Group of Gannett.

He joined Gannett in 1985 as vice president/advertising of The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Cincinnati Post. He also has been president and publisher of The News-Press in Fort Myers, FL. and of the Arkansas Gazette in Little Rock.

He has been the Newspaper Division’s advertising executive of the year, publisher of the year and Gannett’s manager of the year. He has been given a President’s Ring as a top Gannett publisher five times since 1992.
