Gannett Names Welch President, Publisher in St. George, Utah
McLEAN, VA – Donnie Welch, formerly advertising director for the Burlington (VT) Free Press, will become president and publisher of The Spectrum in St. George, Utah, Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) announced today.
“Donnie is a Utah native with a diverse newspaper background that is a good fit with the St. George community,” said Sue Clark-Johnson, president of Gannett’s Newspaper Division. “I am confident he will do a wonderful job heading the team at The Spectrum.”
Previously, Welch held positions as vice president of advertising at The Honolulu Star Bulletin in Hawaii and as advertising director at newspapers in Southern California and Provo, Utah. He has been in newspaper advertising sales since 1988, working in classified, retail, majors, national and marketing.
In 1998, Welch was named Pulitzer Inc. community advertising director of the year. He graduated from Brigham Young University in communications and from Utah Valley State College in Business Management.
