Gannett Names Bodner President, Publisher in Binghamton, NY
McLEAN, VA – Sherman Bodner, a longtime Gannett executive, has been named president and publisher Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, NY. He succeeds Bernie Griffin, who becomes chairman.
“I am delighted Sherm is in Binghamton. He will build on the strong foundation laid by Bernie Griffin,” said Sue Clark-Johnson, president of Gannett’s Newspaper Division.
Bodner, a New York native, is a 30-year Gannett employee. He worked in management positions at The Journal News in Westchester, NY, in editorial, circulation, human resources and information technology. In 1999, he became president and publisher of the Norwich (CT) Bulletin. In 2003, he became CEO of the Texas-New Mexico Newspapers Partnership.
Griffin joined the Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton in 1965, working his way up the ranks in production. He was named president and publisher of the St. Cloud (MN) Times in 1984. He returned to Binghamton as publisher in 1990. In 1997, he became publisher at the Springfield (MO) News-Leader until returning again to his hometown of Binghamton as publisher in 2002.
“Bernie has made many contributions to Gannett during his 41 years with the company, starting as a copy boy,” said Clark-Johnson. “He saved the best for last – taking the lead role in building a new production facility that will serve three newspapers in Central New York.”
