GMTI to Distribute Digital Collections
ARLINGTON, Va. — Gannett Co., Inc. and Digital Collections Verlagsgesellschaft m.b.H. of Hamburg, Germany, have reached an agreement for Gannett Media Technologies International to be the exclusive North American distributor of products developed jointly by Digital Collections and Gannett.
Gannett will invest in further research in both the United States and Germany to enhance the continued development of Digital Collections products.
The principal product is PaperDesk, an integrated text and picture graphic work flow management/archive system. The system also has World Wide Web access capability and is currently online in Germany. PaperDesk was developed by Digital Collections and Gannett for the North America market. PaperDesk is currently installed at 11 Gannett newspapers — including The Democrat and Chronicle/Times-Union at Rochester, N.Y., The Des Moines Register, The Courier-Journal at Louisville, Ky. and the Hawaii Newspaper Agency.
Gary L. Watson, president of Gannett’s Newspaper Division, said the agreement formalizes an initiative begun more than six months ago to market Paper Desk.
“What’s exciting is that PaperDesk’s potential lies beyond the newspaper industry,” Watson said. “It has potential for magazine publishers, museums, catalogue producers, hospitals, law offices . . . for any business that must manage text, photos, and graphics together or separately. We’re delighted to have finalized the agreement with our colleagues at Digital Collections and to now have the opportunity to share PaperDesk and its related products with others.”
Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 82 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 10 television stations, 11 radio stations and the largest outdoor advertising company in North America.
