Gannett Completes Acquisition of New Jersey Press, Inc.; Executive Appointments Announced
ARLINGTON, Va. — Robert T. Collins has been named president and publisher of the Asbury Park Press and the Home News & Tribune at East Brunswick, N.J.
The two newspapers, along with In Jersey, an Internet service, became part of Gannett Co., Inc., with today’s completion of the acquisition of New Jersey Press, Inc.
“This is a proud day for Gannett,” said John J. Curley, Gannett chairman and CEO. “The Asbury Park Press, under the leadership of the Lass and Plangere families, has a long history of good journalism and service to its communities. We look forward to carrying on that tradition.”
Three other executive appointments for the Asbury Park Press and Home News & Tribune also were announced:
* Gary J. DiSanto becomes vice president/circulation.
* Mark J. Frisby becomes vice president/production.
* Ketan N. Gandhi becomes vice president/finance.
Since 1980, Collins has been president and publisher of the Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, N.J., where he began his career as a copy boy in 1960.
Collins, 54, also has served as president and publisher of the Valley News Dispatch in Tarentum, Pa., and the Public Opinion in Chambersburg, Pa., as well as in editing roles in Chambersburg; Bridgewater, N.J.; Nyack, N.Y., and Dickinson, N.D.
He also previously has served as vice president and president of the East Newspaper Group. He attended Rutgers University.
DiSanto began his career with the company at Gannett Suburban Newspapers in Westchester County in 1971. In 1985, he became circulation director of the Courier-News in Bridgewater, N.J., in 1985. He was named to a similar post at the Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, N.J., in 1993.
Frisby joined the Courier-Post in 1987. He served in management positions in the Circulation and Production departments before being named production director in 1993.
Gandhi previously was controller at the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, N.Y. He joined the company in 1986. He also has served as controller of Gannett newspapers in Elmira, N.Y., and Tarentum/North Hills, Pa.
Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 91 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 18 television stations, five radio stations, cable television systems in five states and alarm security services.
