Sanders Named Director of Gannett Flight Operations
ARLINGTON, Va. – Gary A. Sanders has been named director of Gannett Flight Operations. He previously was manager/aircraft maintenance.
Sanders is replacing Jack Gallagher who is retiring after 30 years with Gannett. Gallagher joined Flight Operations in 1968 in Rochester, N.Y. Over the years, Gallagher has held various positions within the department, including captain, chief pilot and director. Gallagher, a native of Scranton, Pa., served on the board of the National Business Aviation Association. Under his leadership, Gannett Flight Operations received the 1989 Flight Department of the Year Award from the Professional Pilots Association.
“Jack is a spirited, dedicated professional who has taken Gannett from a one-aircraft department to a state-of-the-art, sophisticated corporate flight operation while endearing himself to all he served,” said Tom Curley, president and publisher of USA TODAY and senior vice president/administration at Gannett.
Sanders, 56, joined Flight Operations in 1972 in Rochester, N.Y. as flight engineer. The following year, he was promoted to chief of maintenance, a position he held for 13 years. He was named manager/aircraft maintenance in 1986.
Sanders, a native of Franklin, Pa., served as a flight engineer and jet aircraft technician for the U.S. Navy. Sanders attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and the Pittsburgh Electronic Institute. He is a member of the National Business Aviation Association and the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association.

Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 75 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 21 television stations and cable television systems in major U.S. markets.
