Moon Named Executive vice President of Gannett’s Newspaper Division

McLEAN, Va. – Craig A. Moon has been named executive vice president of the Newspaper Division, it was announced today by Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI)

He formerly was president and publisher of The Tennessean at Nashville and president of the Piedmont Newspaper Group.

“Craig Moon has vast experience in newspaper management,” said Gary L. Watson, president of the Newspaper Division. “In his new role, he will be a major contributor to the continued growth and progress of our newspapers as we strive to better serve our readers and advertisers.”

In Nashville, Leslie M. Giallombardo succeeds Moon as president and publisher of The Tennessean. She previously was senior vice president/marketing.

“Leslie Giallombardo knows The Tennessean and Nashville,” Watson said. “This experience, coupled with her understanding of the newspaper business, will serve her very well in this new role.”

Moon joined Gannett in 1985 as vice president/advertising of The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Cincinnati Post. In 1988, he became president and publisher of The News-Press at Fort Myers, Fla. A year later, he assumed a similar role at the Arkansas Gazette at Little Rock.

In 1991, Moon joined The Tennessean as president. He later assumed the role of publisher. He served as a vice president in the South Newspaper Group before becoming president of the Piedmont Group in 1999. He also has held management positions with newspapers in Yakima, Wash., and Modesto, Calif.

Moon previously has been selected the Newspaper Division’s advertising executive of the year and publisher of the year, as well as Gannett’s manager of the year.

Giallombardo joined The Tennessean in 1995 as vice president/advertising. She was named senior vice president/marketing in 1999. She previously was advertising director of The Idaho Statesman at Boise and The Desert Sun at Palm Springs, Calif. After joining Gannett in 1982, she also held management positions at the Reno (Nev.) Gazette-Journal and the Statesman Journal in Salem, Ore.

She is a seven-time winner of the President’s Ring, awarded for outstanding performance.
