Daugherty Named vice President/Research

MCLEAN, Va. – Dr. David B. Daugherty has been named vice president/research in the Newspaper Division of Gannett Co., Inc.

Daugherty succeeds Dr. David Neft, who retired last month after 25 years with the company.

“David Neft contributed much to our company, to our newspapers and to our collective understanding of our markets,” said Gary L. Watson, president of the Newspaper Division. “His insights into our customers’ reading and buying habits enabled our newspapers to improve their news and advertising content and make it more relevant to readers.”

Daugherty joined Gannett in 1991 and worked with Neft. “Their collaboration over the last decade ensures continuity in our research activities while we explore additional ways to measure our readers’ likes and dislikes,” Watson said.

Before joining Gannett, Daugherty had been an executive with Frank Magid Associates, an Iowa research firm, and chairman of the Department of Communications at North Dakota State University, Fargo. He holds degrees from the University of Texas, Austin; North Dakota State University, Fargo; and Moorhead State University.
