Thomas Claybaugh Named President and Publisher of Gannett Central New York Media
McLEAN, VA – Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) today announced Thomas Claybaugh as the new president and publisher of Gannett Central New York Media, where he will oversee the Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton, the Star-Gazette in Elmira and The Ithaca Journal effective September 1, 2014. Claybaugh will succeed longtime Gannett executive Sherman Bodner, who is retiring at the end of the month. Bodner has been with Gannett for nearly 40 years.
“Sherm started with Gannett back in 1976 as copy editor and has been an invaluable resource ever since, highlighted by his five Gannett President’s Ring awards for outstanding performance,” said Robert Dickey, president, Gannett U.S. Community Publishing. “We thank Sherm for his nearly four decades of service and wish him nothing but the best as he begins this next chapter in his life.”
Claybaugh is also a Gannett veteran, starting with the company 25 years ago. He returns to Gannett Central New York Media, after serving as the general manager of the Delmarva Media Group, which consists of nine publications and websites, including The Daily Times in Salisbury, MD. Before the Delmarva Media Group, Claybaugh spent the previous six years as vice president of sales and marketing for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, where he was responsible for all aspects of sales and marketing, including circulation sales. Claybaugh has also served as advertising director for the Press & Sun-Bulletin.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Claybaugh was also group publisher for the Newspaper Network of Central Ohio. He’s held various positions with then-Gannett owned Huntington (WV) Herald Dispatch, The Saratogian in Saratoga, NY, and the Poughkeepsie (NY) Journal.
Born and raised in Rochester, Claybaugh is married with three adult children.
